Årestua from the 1220s
The work on Årestua is taking its course. How should one take care of what is perhaps Europe's oldest wooden home?
Bathroom and kitchen in the barn at Jonrud
The Homestead Jonrud is located a couple of kilometers from the farm. Here time stands still and tranquility can descend upon visitors. Some modern facilities are still good to have, now they have drilled for water and built a bathroom and kitchen in the barn.
The Eldhuset – almost 800 years old!
In the spring of 2020, tree ring samples were taken to determine the age of the Eldhuset. This was done in collaboration with the Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum (NIA). The results surprised everyone, the timber was from the 1220s!
The attics in the yard
It has been a major project to secure the lofts in the yard for the future. With the help of the Cultural Heritage Fund, Norwegian Cultural Heritage and the SMIL scheme in Notodden municipality, we were able to realize the project.
The Old House
Gamlestua is clearly a house with soul. Nothing is straight here, everything is crooked, and there is a lot of history in the walls.
