Bathroom and kitchen in the barn at Jonrud

The Homestead Jonrud is located a couple of kilometers from the farm. Here time stands still and tranquility can descend upon visitors. Some modern facilities are still good to have, now they have drilled for water and made a bathroom and kitchen in the barn!

The barn is on the left in the picture and stabburet on the right. Note the beautiful flower meadow and the hedge.

We are very pleased with the result and think that the space in the barn has been well utilized. There are now three separate rooms, a small kitchen, a bathroom with shower and a toilet. The idea is that this will be available for guests to use. The Stable and by those who rent The Cottage on the spot on the anniversary.

It has been a big project. First, the timber was straightened so that it is now approximately level. The entire barn was lifted up, so that we have been able to replace the bottom log on the short wall. To achieve this, we also had to remove some of the rock on which the barn is built. In addition, several places where there was rot damage were sheet piled. For this work, we have received good help from the skilled Jon-Ivar Finnekåsa.

Inside, there was initially only a floor made of poles - the only previous use was for drying hay! New scaffolding was installed with windproofing and insulation. A couple of extra logs were also inserted up on the barn bridge to cover the scaffolding in the new part. Panels were chosen in a warm brown tone that suits the place, with light floors and ceilings so that it doesn't get too dark. Windows from Bjervamoen Trevare have been installed and Ole Henrik has made the exterior door himself. When spring comes, we will stain the exterior.

There was no electricity in the barn when we started the project. Electrician Sauherad AS has done a great job! A trench was dug for the main cabin and a cable was pulled to the barn. Now there is an outdoor light in place and a hidden electrical system inside.

Plumber Oskar Johansen has been helpful with advice and has guided us safely through the process to get a good water supply system. Værås Brønnboring first drilled down 120 meters without hitting water, even though the site is right next to Follsjø. The guys were not stressed about that and with the help of pressure it was a successful result. In consultation with the municipality, we have dug infiltration trenches and installed large tanks. There has been a lot of digging to lay the necessary pipes and cables, so now all that remains is to sow in the spring, so that the meadow returns.

We are very pleased with the result and hope that many more people than us will enjoy it in the future. During the winter we also aim to finish the sauna in the old pig house, so just enjoy :)
