The Old House
Gamlestua is a house with a lot of history in its walls. We don't know how old the building actually is, but it is expected to be from the 17th century. Some parts of the building are older than others and it is reasonable to assume that the living room on the second floor was once the first floor.
Uppstugu is a rose painting by Olav Hansson (b. c. 1750). It was “discovered” in the 1970s by my father and grandparents. The flat ceiling in the living room had to be replaced and under this ceiling they found this incredible surprise. Our good neighbor, Walfried Bolkesjø Brandt, former conservator at Henie Onstad Art Center and local historian, has ensured that the rose paintings have been well cared for.
The rest of the old house was renovated in 2015. We wanted to combine the history of the house with today's standards and some modern elements. The old colors were preserved where possible and new ones were chosen to compliment the original. Thanks to the good help of eager parents and skilled craftsmen, all the residents of the farm are very happy.
