Sustainability and accommodation
On Bolkesjø Gaard We take care of both the nature and cultural heritage that surrounds us. Our entire operation is based on reuse, repair and respect for historical buildings and traditions.
We are actively working to reduce our environmental footprint through energy-efficient solutions, solar panels, careful use of water and heat, and by sorting all waste and avoiding single-use plastic. When transporting guests, we use electric cars and we also offer pick-up of guests at Kongsberg station to reduce the need for private cars.
The nature around us is an important part of the experience, and we manage both the species-rich hay meadows and the large nature reserve Bjønnestille with great care. The traditional meadows on the farm and The Crofter's farm are mowed annually to preserve a rich diversity of plants and pollinating insects. We also keep light pollution to a minimum so that both wildlife and guests can enjoy the natural darkness.
Cultural heritage is central to everything we do. We collaborate with local craftsmen and producers, and serve food from our own forest and nearby farms. The collaboration with IDEA Arbeids- og inkluklingsbedrift in Notodden is an important part of our local commitment. We want guests to have time to settle in and experience the place in peace, and therefore encourage a minimum stay of two nights. Everyone is welcome with us, and we emphasize an inclusive and warm environment.
We are constantly working to improve, including through better trail layouts and new ways to make the farm's history more accessible to guests. Our goal is to preserve this unique place – both for today's visitors and for future generations.
