The scent of a flower meadow

What could be better than the delicious scent of flowers on a warm summer day? Traditional hay meadows are the most species-rich habitat in Norway. Today, this is an endangered habitat, mainly because the meadows are no longer mowed or because they are being used in more intensive production and the biodiversity is reduced due to fertilization.

We can enjoy beautiful flower meadows both at Jonrud and at Nigard Bolkesjø. With the help of the Cultural Landscape Center, we have prepared a management plan and are managing the meadows in line with this. The main elements are that no nutrients should be added, that the meadow should be mowed late so that the species can produce seeds and that the ground is dried so that as many seeds as possible remain.
