From pig house to sauna
The pig house at Jonrud has been given new life! During the winter, it has been transformed into a wood-fired sauna. What could be better than combining a refreshing swim in Follsjø with a warm and delicious sauna?
We are very pleased that another old building has been given a new lease of life at Bolkesjø. It has been over 70 years since the pig house was actually used for pigs and since then it has been more or less empty. The roof was replaced about 20 years ago, but apart from that nothing had been done. There was a dirt floor and clear traces of previous use on the walls.
First the floor was laid. Then the ceiling was lined and insulated, the same with the walls. A window was inserted to replace the open window. We didn't want to make any larger openings in the old timber than what was already there, so both the window and door were ordered to special measure. The sauna door is particularly interesting, hidden behind the original, external hatch.

The starting point
See pictures from the process below.
A lot has happened on The Homestead Jonrud in recent years. The dense pine forest on what was previously pasture has been cut down, sheep are now grazing here in the summer. A road has been built to the site. And now the pig house has also received extra care.
