Day trips

Bolkesjø Gaard er et godt utgangspunkt for å utforske både Telemark og Kongsberg-området på dagsturer.

Notodden (20 km)

Notodden is perhaps best known as the blues town, but it also has other things to offer. Heddal Stave Church is Norway's largest stave church, and together with Heddal Bygdetun it is definitely worth a visit. Notodden is also where the industrial adventure Norsk Hydro started and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with Rjukan. To learn more about this, visit the World Heritage Center. The Telemark Gallery, which is in the same building, has great exhibitions. Bok og Blueshuset is a library and has a number of events. Day trips are also arranged from Notodden for visitors who want to experience the Telemark Canal.

Among the places to eat, we can mention Eyde Bar and Restaurant, Cafe Felicia and Danys Cafe.

Kongsberg (30 km) and Nummedal (35 km+)

Another industrial adventure took place in Kongsberg, with the development of mining. A visit to the Norwegian Mining Museum and the Silver Mines is interesting for both adults and children. Kongsberg Church is also exceptionally beautiful, nicely located in the old town. Kongsberg Ski Center is also popular in the winter.

Nummedal is called the medieval valley. Here there are a number of beautiful stave churches and museums that are nice to visit.

See this link for an overview of restaurants in Kongsberg; here .

Bø (50 km) and Gvarv (45 km)

In Midt-Telemark there are a lot of enterprising people and things happening. In Bø there are fun activities for young and old, with both Sommarland and Høyt og Lavt climbing park. The fruit village of Gvarv is also worth a visit, they have a huge production of apples, plums, cherries and morels.

Bø also has several good restaurants, such as Sesong Restaurant, Provence Restaurant and Pizzafjoset.

Rjukan (80 km)

Rjukan is a special place, hidden between the steep mountain sides. How about a trip to Gaustatoppen? Whether you choose to walk or use the lift, it is a great experience. There are good opportunities for off-piste driving here, or slalom at Gaustablikk ski center. Krossobanen takes you up to the Hardangervidda plateau and offers great views, how about lunch in the restaurant? Vemork was the world's largest power plant when it was built in 1911 and is included, along with Notodden, on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The story of the saboteurs from World War II is also told here.

Seljord (65 km)

Seljord is the trading center in West Telemark and has a real cultural life. Take a look at what events are happening at Dyrskuplassen . The cultural landscape in both Hjartdal, Flatdal, Svartdal and Åmotsdal is nationally known. And let's not forget the story of the sea serpent in Seljord, maybe you can see it from the Sjørormtårnet!
